When my sister-in-law Emily Wilson first started designing dancewear leotards and body wear, she was focused on getting a precise fit that actually moved with a dancer and performed.
She spent months perfecting the fit. Countless fabric tests and pattern adjustments. In the end, it really paid off. Emily came up with one of the best dancewear fits in the industry and it’s sill probably the best fit on the market for dance apparel.
Then, a few years ago, we decided to finally launch a gymnastics line. Thanks to our success in dance, we thought we knew it all. Guess what? We didn’t. We thought we could extrapolate our dancewear fit and impose that on gymnastics wear, but it doesn’t work like that and we weren’t received well.
It was a harsh lesson, but an important one. You see, there is a real science to fit, a science that MotionWear has now spent years developing.
So, Emily hit the drawing board again and spent six to nine months doing exhaustive research into body wear fit for gymnastics. Then there were trial fittings and pattern adjustments and more trial fittings, one after the other for months.
Finally, after almost a year of fittings and adjustments, we came out with an incredible fit. It was so good that one of our top competitors in the gymnastics market actually tried to use the phrase “motion wear fit” to sell their body wear. Thanks to hard research and hundreds of fittings, we were beating the competition hands down with our MotionWear fit, to the point where they had to go back and restructure their entire body wear line.
So, when you hear someone talking about the “MotionWear Fit,” whether it be for a dance or gymnastics leotard, please know that they’re referring to years of dedication, thousands of designs, tons of fabrics and lots of real world experience.
